Das Blatt stammt aus Johann Caspar Lavaters Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Zwischen 1775 und 1778 gab er das mehrbändige Werk heraus, in dem menschliche Charaktere anhand ihrer Physiognomie erklärt werden. Bekannte Künstler wie Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg oder Johann Heinrich Lips lieferten Vorlagen für seine Sammlung der Physiognomik, die zahlreiche Porträts bekannter und anonymer Personen enthält.

- Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Auf dem Blattrand sind einzelne blasse Stockflecken sowie ein Flüssigkeitsfleck oben links zu sehen. Die Blattkanten sind teils unbeschnitten und stellenweise minimal bestoßen und verfärbt. Die linke obere Blattecke ist leicht geknickt. Die Darstellung macht einen sehr guten Eindruck.

Well-known artists such as Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg or Johann Heinrich Lips provided models for his collection of physiognomics, which contains numerous portraits of well-known and anonymous people.

- Condition: Very good condition. There are a few pale foxing spots on the margins and a spot of liquid on the upper left. The edges are partly untrimmed and minimally bumped and discoloured in places. The upper left corner is slightly creased. The image makes a very good impression.
