Das Blatt stammt aus Johann Caspar Lavaters Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Zwischen 1775 und 1778 gab er das mehrbändige Werk heraus, in dem menschliche Charaktere anhand ihrer Physiognomie erklärt werden. Bekannte Künstler wie Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg oder Johann Heinrich Lips lieferten Vorlagen für seine Sammlung der Physiognomik, die zahlreiche Porträts bekannter und anonymer Personen enthält.

- Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Auf dem Blattrand sind leichte Stockflecken erkennbar. Die Blattkanten sind teils unbeschnitten und stellenweise grob bestoßen und verfärbt. Die linke obere Blattecke ist diagonal gefaltet. Die rechte untere Blattecke fehlt.

The print is from Johann Caspar Lavater’s Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Between 1775 and 1778, he published the multi-volume work in which human characters are explained on the basis of their physiognomy. Well-known artists such as Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg or Johann Heinrich Lips provided models for his collection of physiognomics, which contains numerous portraits of well-known and anonymous people.

- Condition: Very good condition. Light foxing is visible on the sheet margin. The edges are partly untrimmed and in places roughly bumped and discoloured. The upper left corner of the sheet is folded diagonally. The lower right corner is missing.
