Das Blatt stammt aus Johann Caspar Lavaters Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Zwischen 1775 und 1778 gab er das mehrbändige Werk heraus, in dem menschliche Charaktere anhand ihrer Physiognomie erklärt werden. Bekannte Künstler wie Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg oder Johann Heinrich Lips lieferten Vorlagen für seine Sammlung der Physiognomik, die zahlreiche Porträts bekannter und anonymer Personen enthält.

- Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Auf dem Blattrand sind vereinzelt blasse Stockflecken erkennbar. Die Blattkanten sind teils unbeschnitten und stellenweise geringfügig bestoßen und verfärbt. Die Darstellung macht einen tadellosen Eindruck.

Between 1775 and 1778, he published the multi-volume work in which human characters are explained on the basis of their physiognomy. Well-known artists such as Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg or Johann Heinrich Lips provided models for his collection of physiognomics, which contains numerous portraits of well-known and anonymous people.
