München 1811-16. Endymion – in der griechischen Mythologie der schöne und ewig jugendliche Liebhaber der Artemis, römisch Diana – ist schlafend in der Bildmitte dargestellt. Diana von rechts aus den Wolken kommend. Vorn rechts schlafender Hund, hinten links oben zwei Putten. Diana verliebt sich in Endymion. Sie lässt ihn mit der Hilfe von Zeus in ewigen Schlaf sinken, um ihn vor dem Tod zu bewahren und ihm dadurch ewige Jugend zu schenken. Jede Nacht kommt sie zu ihm in die Höhle und zeugt mit ihm insgesamt fünfzig Töchter.

Munich 1811-16. Endymion – in Greek mythology the beautiful and eternally youthful lover of Artemis, Roman Diana – is depicted sleeping in the centre of the picture. Diana coming out of the clouds from the right. In front on the right sleeping dog, behind on the left above two putti. Diana falls in love with Endymion. With the help of Zeus she lets him sink into eternal sleep to save him from death and thus give him eternal youth. Every night she comes to him in the cave and begets a total of fifty daughters with him.

- Condition: The image makes a very good impression. Creased in the upper corners and with discolouration due to an earlier mounting on the back, lower corners rubbed; in the image with tiny punctures in places. Trimmed along the outer margin line.
